How to Apply?

Eligible Applicant

  • Investigators from UMMC or Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (FOM-UM). Investigators who are not from UMMC/FOM-UM must appoint a PI from UMMC/FOM-UM who will submit the application.

  • Students (post-graduate) from FOM-UM. Each student must include the UMMC/FOM supervisor’s name in the application.

  • Students who are not from FOM-UM or undergraduate students from FOM-UM must appoint a staff from UMMC/FOM-UM as a PI who will submit the application.

  • Research assistant, study coordinator, clinical research officers or any personnel from industry are not eligible. The UMMC/FOM-UM investigator who is on the study team should submit the application.

Content of Ethics Review

Studies that require UMMC-MREC's approval

Clearance from the MREC is required for all health-related studies involving human participants (including patients), their medical records, and tissues under the aegis of the University of Malaya Medical Centre or Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.

Elements in reviewing the UMMC-MREC application

In the consideration of a study, particularly clinical trials, the MREC requires that it be conducted in accordance with ICH Harmonised Tripartite Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).
