Academician, Academy of Sciences Malaysia and Distinguished Professor, University of Malaya
Academician Datuk Profesor Ulung Dr Lai-Meng Looi is Malaysia’s inaugural National Distinguished Professor positioned at UM where she also serves as UMMC’s senior consultant histopathologist. As chair of UMMC-MREC, she helmed its transformation for the past 2 decades. She has served on the Malaysian Medical Council, chaired the ASM Newton-Ungku Omar Fund Committee for Bilateral Research Programmes with the Medical Research Council, UK, the MRC-Malaysia Joint Panel on Non-Communicable Diseases and the Ethics and Editorial Policies Committee of Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Editors. She serves on the MRC Applied Global Health Research Board and the Lancet Commission on Diagnostics. She was conferred the Merdeka Award in 2016.

Professor Dr Nik Sherina Haidi Hanafi

Dr Nik Sherina Hanafi is a primary care physician in the Department of Primary Care Medicine, University of Malaya Medical Centre. Her research interests are in the area of self-management and chronic diseases particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma and hypertension. Her research skills are in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research. She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training and provides both acute and chronic care to patients in the primary care clinic of UMMC.
